International war and civil unrest, political conflict, religious persecution, and violation of human rights may cause families to flee for their lives, and land in the Update. Every day, refugee and immigrant families try to rebuild their lives — they learn English, learn to drive, find jobs, navigate healthcare, and help children thrive in school. Established in 2024 in response to a growing gap of available services, RISE (Refugee & Immigrant Support and Empowerment) matches newcomers with skilled and caring volunteers who walk alongside them. These volunteers help with everyday challenges and long-term goals.
